I did an organic painting of a piece of a bush. It had a stem and about 6 leaves. I think it came out well and I expressed all the colors in the image. It was a bit hard seeing sixteen colors for the painting but I was able to complete it.
Color Wheel
My color wheel turned out pretty good. All the colors go together in harmony because they are all mixes of each other. It was a bit difficult to get the inner colors in the circle, but I was able to manage.

Self Portrait
The form of my self Portrait contains certain elements of art. It expresses texture, which is the foil that I used as the negative space. I crumbled up the foil to provide a bumpy texture then painted black paint on top. The shape I used is square and rectangle, this kept the artwork consistent. The colors that I used were black and white. The value used was high and low contrast of black and white.
The self portrait also follows the principles of organization, which is in form. It shows harmony because the shapes and colors are consistent, rectangles and squares, black and white. This gives it rhythm because the visual elements that were used are repetitive. It shows variety through the visual aspects that are expressed. They are all black and white photos, this helps grab the observers attention. The balance shown in this artwork is delivered vertically. The pictures on the side are lined up vertically to the picture in the center. This gives the artwork a sense of gravity. It also show symmetrical balance because the pictures on the side lined vertically are lined up on the other. It explores proportion because of the way the pictures are placed. The pictures on the side are proportionally equal to each other and are placed directly across from each other. The center picture is lined up directly in the center. The dominance of the self Portrait is the big center picture. The sense of movement is the texture and the pictures on the side. The texture gives a flowing feeling and the pictures express movement with the people in them. It show economy because of the way things were placed in the artwork and the visual aspects chosen.
The content of the artwork is an expression of who the artist is and what interests them. Surrounding the center picture are pictures that interest the artist or things that she likes. The black background shows that she likes the color black. The expression also shows simplicity because of the settle colors of black and white and how the picture are evenly placed.

Analyze an Image
The two dimensional art work that was observed was held at a local art gallery at Bridgewater College. The artwork was titled New Work by Dorothy Pulsifer. The art shown consisted of digital images, multi media, clay, and glass. The piece of artwork chosen to analyze was that of a digital image. The image itself did not contain a title.
The subject of the artwork was a sculptor of an angel. Her upper body, from the waist up, is shown along with her wings. The angel was the artists main motivation, the art work on and around it conveys that message. The form of the artwork is the angel pictured behind strips of works that are broken up throughout the piece. The artist took a digital image of the angel and placed it a little off-centered. Flowing across the image are the strips of words. The content of the work that the artist is trying to display is relaxed, tranquil and godly type of mood or statement. Although most of the words were not legible, "dreams" was one of the words recognized. This gives the observer a relaxed soothing mood when viewing the artwork.
The work communicates that the angel is in the dreams of the observer. That the angel is watching over while dreaming. In the image the angel is looking down, communicating a protective shield.
The artist uses line to separate the words that are floating across the image. This helps the words not to cluster and seem too abundant to the observer. The line also provide a ancient look to the image, it look as though in might have been dug up as an artifact. The texture used in the image is, invented texture. The texture shown in the image does not come from reality but rather is a creation from the imagination. The artist has the viewer looking twice to see of there really is a texture to the image because it is presented so well. The strips of words look as though they have an old newspaper texture to them. The line separating the words look as though they may have been painted on the image with thick strokes. The colors that the artist chose to use in her image are gray, brown, orange, and black. They are not just straight colors, they were mixed to give a more organic look to them. The colors used would be categorized under analogous and monochromatic colors. The colors that are covering the angel are analogous colors. They look like they would appear close to each other on a color wheel. They express different tints and shades to show separation. The colors used in the angel are monochromatic colors. The artist uses different hues of white and different shades of black.
When I walked into the gallery this was not the first image that caught my eye. The bright and vibrant images and pieces were viewed first. The gallery was a bit small and the sound of nearby classes filled the air. The light setting was dimmed dark to present a mood within the gallery. As I circled around the gallery carefully observing each piece, this one grabbed me. I first viewed the image from a distance. I could see the strips of words floating across but I could see something behind it. As I brought myself closer to the image I was able to realize that the image hidden behind the words was a angel. As said in the beginning of the class semester, my eye latches onto images of angels. When I realized that an angel was involved in the image, I started seeing the work as a whole. The words fit to the image, telling of dreams, sleep, and angels. The work gave me a relaxed feeling, as though I was dreaming or sleeping. The angel is placed more towards the center left so that you are able to see her full right wing. The angel is looking down, as if she is watching over you. The angel is a sculpture, maybe of marble or concrete. She is smooth and very detailed. The angel is wearing a cloth around her and has a rose crown wrapped around her head. Her face is soft and smooth as she looks down. Her wings arch past the edge of the image border. She seems to be standing in some kind of church , where the ceilings arch at the top.
I liked how the artist put the words across the image, it gives it more substance rather than a plain angel in the image. The words help set a mood to the image. If the words were not there and there was just the orange/brown colored strips across her, I think the viewer would not a able to capture the mood as well. The viewer would just see and angel with rusted strips going across her.
The artist put this image together well and it provides organic unity. The subject, form and content all fit well together. There are no images or details that she could have taken away. The choice of colors used also helps set the mood, which I think the artist presented well also. If the artist had put bright colors, it would have sett off the wrong mood for the image. As I looked at the piece, I thought that maybe the artist should have cropped the top of the image more so that it was just the angel. The background gives the angel stability so that she is not just floating in the image. The one thing a might change, would be to add more words so that the viewer can read them. The artist has some random letters in the image and I was only able to pick up a couple of words.

My 3 Favorite Names
I voted Eric, Jaime and Alyssa. They have the most creative names. On Eric's I like the way he lettered his name and the background brings it out. Jaime's although she has many posted I like the ones with bubble letters. Alyssa's, I like the one with the flower on the corner, it has the best organic unity
Figure Ground
Out of the four figure ground projects I liked the one with the women sitting on the box. The one with the black background with the white figure stands out the most. You can see the full shape of the figure as she sits on the box. I grounded the firgure with a white line going across the bottom so the figure is not floating.

Powell

I chose this image as my favorite picture. The contrast of the black and white colors portrayed in this image makes it one of a kind. The subject of the picture forms a silhouette of dark color which shows dominance in the image. I think this is the first thing that captures your eye when you first see it. The dark mountain and cloud also brings unity to the picture because there is not too much light. The sky, which is luminated through light color, helps the viewer to see what the picture consists of. I think the use of the light and dark makes the picture come out with unity.

Chapter 2
1. How does this artwork achieve wholeness?
The piece of artwork shown in figure 2.0B, when forwarded all the way, achieves wholeness. It brings the seven principle of organization to unity. Unity which is the organization of parts that fit into a whole and become vital to it. This artwork show harmony by giving the groups of shape a common element which is color. The three groups of shapes share a color related to one another. The darker background gives the negative area less importance, rather than it
being lighter. the four white triangular shapes come to more importance rather than the negative area. The artwork also shows variety. the variety is shown through the variation of the shapes throughput the artwork. It stretches the square shapes. The artwork shows balance by gravitating each group of shapes. The different colors of shapes are group together, showing a gravitional pull towards each other. Proportion is shown through the blue shapes being separated by the lighter red. The blue shapes are more confined in that space. The yellow shapes create dominance over the rest of the artwork. The color of the shapes create dominance
along with its sense of movement in the artwork. The yellow shapes create a sense of movement by circling around the picture. The yellow shapes make the viewer see them moving in a clockwise movement. The variety of colors, lightness and darkness, gives the artwork economy.
2. What is it about this artwork that you like?
I like this artwork because of the use of color presented in it. The use of darker and lighter reds in the negative space made the lighter shapes come to life and create a sense of movement throughout the artwork. Although, some observers may not see this artwork as a whole and abstract. I see it all come together in its own uniqueness. After reading chapter two, about form, it showed my how this artwork is carefully placed and organized.
3. What does this tell you about your own quest for wholeness in life?
This tells me that the quest for wholeness in life, one must achieve the seven principles of organization. After reading the chapter, I think all seven components are essential to create a complete wholeness with artwork and maybe even life. the seven principles being: harmony, variety, balance, proportion, dominance, movement and economy. This also tells me how each component is needed and about its importance.
4. Which of the seven principles are you most drawn to? and why?
One of the seven principles that I am most drawn to is variety. As the book said, variety brings the observer to "curiosity and holds their attention". As with my artwork and myself, I want observer to be curious and not have all the answer right away. If an observer could have all the answers and draw straight to conclusions then boredom will exist in our world. Variety is also the spice of life.

Kill Daddy
Kill Daddy is the piece of artwork I chose that caught my attention. Although I don't quite understand how the title fits with the artwork. It leaves the observer to contemplate what the hidden meaning might be and I think that is why I grabbed my eyes.
The artwork express harmony, one of the seven principles, by using the element of color. The negative space in the work is red. The shades of red used vary to appeal to the viewer. A darker red is used towards the bottom so the viewer focuses more on the subject of the work. The red progessively gets lighter as it circles the horse. The lightest red is used around the head of the horse to forward the viewers attention to the head of the horse. This helps the viewer see the emotion of the horse.
The artwork also shows balance. The gravitational pull of the work is concentrated towards the center. This is achieved by the subject being bulky towards the front of the work and more narrow towards the center. By this I can see the sense of movement within the subject. The horse seems to be bending towards the center with its head down, as if the horse is somewhat ashamed of something.

Black
I picked this template because I like the negitive space color. I like the color black and I think that it will grab my viewers attention. The viewers will be able to enjoy the different choice of colors in my lettering and the pictures, they will stand out better with a black background. This will help my blog have organic unity.
