Self Portrait
The form of my self Portrait contains certain elements of art. It expresses texture, which is the foil that I used as the negative space. I crumbled up the foil to provide a bumpy texture then painted black paint on top. The shape I used is square and rectangle, this kept the artwork consistent. The colors that I used were black and white. The value used was high and low contrast of black and white.
The self portrait also follows the principles of organization, which is in form. It shows harmony because the shapes and colors are consistent, rectangles and squares, black and white. This gives it rhythm because the visual elements that were used are repetitive. It shows variety through the visual aspects that are expressed. They are all black and white photos, this helps grab the observers attention. The balance shown in this artwork is delivered vertically. The pictures on the side are lined up vertically to the picture in the center. This gives the artwork a sense of gravity. It also show symmetrical balance because the pictures on the side lined vertically are lined up on the other. It explores proportion because of the way the pictures are placed. The pictures on the side are proportionally equal to each other and are placed directly across from each other. The center picture is lined up directly in the center. The dominance of the self Portrait is the big center picture. The sense of movement is the texture and the pictures on the side. The texture gives a flowing feeling and the pictures express movement with the people in them. It show economy because of the way things were placed in the artwork and the visual aspects chosen.
The content of the artwork is an expression of who the artist is and what interests them. Surrounding the center picture are pictures that interest the artist or things that she likes. The black background shows that she likes the color black. The expression also shows simplicity because of the settle colors of black and white and how the picture are evenly placed.
